Hayden Shoes was founded in 2010 by Mirela Hayden. Mirela was inspired after serving two years in Romania as a member of the Peace Corps where she witnessed poverty, as well as many children running through the streets barefoot. That's when she recognized a simple, yet revolutionary solution - shoes. She quickly set out to build a company in the U.S. market with a simple goal: to show how, together, we can take action today to create a better tomorrow.
To realize this mission, Mirela made a commitment to match every Hayden shoe purchased with a new pair of shoes given to a child in need through a mission statement known as "Get 2 Give." During its first year in business, Hayden Shoes sold over 10,000 pairs of shoes. Mirela returned to Romania later that year with family, friends and colleagues, and gave back to the children who had first inspired her. Thanks to their strong customer base, Hayden Shoes gave their one-millionth pair of shoes to a child in need in May 2013. Hayden Shoes now gives in over 45 countries and works with charitable partners in the field who incorporate shoes into their health, education, hygiene, and community development programs.
